EDUCATION NEWS

  • A draft bill may require school districts to have a superintendent review federal immigration requests before agents enter school property. The proposal will be discussed at a Senate Interim Education Committee meeting on Wednesday — a measure prompted by increased enforcement near local campuses.  The Oregonian

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Portland General Electric and PacifiCorp, Oregon's largest utilities, are falling behind state emission reduction mandates and plan to add renewable resources by 2029 while critics worry that the rushed strategy could raise costs for ratepayers.  The Oregonian

SPORTS NEWS

  • The No. 2 Warriors won 56-29 over No. 27 Santiam Christian on Jan. 9, led by senior Eliza Nisly (15 points), while the No. 9 Yamhill Carlton Tigers rebounded with a 42-31 win over No. 22 Riverdale. The Warriors travel to No. 11 Jefferson today and the Tigers will host No. 31 Warrenton Thursday.  News-Register
  • On Saturday, Jan. 10, over 20 Oregon schools competed in wrestling at the Bob Bishop Invitational in Willamina, producing 10 Yamhill County champions.  News-Register
  • Kelly Bird, Linfield University’s athletics marketing and events coordinator, will be inducted into the College Sports Communicators Hall of Fame on Monday, June 8 at Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas — adding a national honor to his 36-year career in sports communications.  News-Register
  • During wild-card weekend, 19 players with Oregon ties played in six NFL games while 15 more could see action in divisional matchups later this weekend — upcoming games feature Buffalo at Denver, San Francisco at Seattle, Houston at New England, and Los Angeles at Chicago.  The Oregonian
