CULTURE NEWS

  • On Saturday, Jan. 31, the Celtic Heritage Alliance hosts a Burns Supper at The Grand where Chef Brett Uniss presents haggis and performers deliver the Address to a Haggis—complete with whisky toasts and live music celebrating poet Robert Burns.  News-Register

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Local public schools have lost over 700 students since 2020 and could see enrollment drop to 5,100 over the next 10 years as shifts in student numbers ripple through the system (small kindergarten classes contrast with larger high school graduating groups). Educators plan to use a Transforming Schools project to bring innovative changes to learning.  News-Register

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Yamhill County commissioners will reconvene on Thursday to rule on the future of the Yamhelas Westsider trail and hold an appeal hearing over a Newberg church's request for modifications. The board's decision may influence local trail projects as grants are available from Oregon Park & Rec.  News-Register

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Jan. 22, the No. 15 ranked Tigers held a low-scoring win at the Tiger Dome while local seniors led strong play. On Jan. 23, the Warriors earned their 10th straight win over Scio in a game marked by impressive senior performances.  News-Register
  • Yamhill Carlton High School senior Addison Tuning became the first girls wrestler to record 100 wins — a historic milestone for the Tiger program. The achievement marks a breakthrough moment during the season.  News-Register
