EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Soroptimist Club’s Dream It, Be It event on Friday offered high school girls career guidance from local professionals who shared career pivots and provided pizza, gift cards, and grant details, though attendance was low with hopes for more participants next year.  News-Register

  • Local donor Walter Wierenga reached the 20-gallon mark on Friday by donating blood for the 160th time with the American Red Cross.  News-Register

  • On Friday, No. 2 Amity extended its unbeaten PacWest run with an 81 to 32 win over No. 10 Jefferson as four players scored double digits. The Tigers rebounded on the road with a close win over Warrenton + keeping playoff hopes alive.  News-Register
  • Mac's boys basketball team ranked No. 40 (7-11) started slow in Keizer and lost 67-47 to No. 22 McNary on Saturday; they will face No. 6 Sherwood at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday.  News-Register
  • Local boys basketball games on Feb. 6 saw Amity beat Jefferson 72—37 and Dayton rally from a 14—point deficit to edge Taft 63—61, while contests for Delphian, Willamina and Yamhill Carlton ended in losses. Teams adjust for upcoming matchups this week.  News-Register
