CULTURE NEWS

  • The McMinnville Short Film Festival runs Feb. 26 to March 1 at Cinema 10 and other venues, screening dozens of short films in various genres (with special guest director Michelle Garza Cervera speaking at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27).  News-Register

EDUCATION NEWS

  • MHS will host its Hall of Fame Banquet on Saturday, May 2 at its gym to honor Maile (Smith) Keliiheleua, Chris Haddeland, Spencer Payne and the 2006 Boys Soccer Team; doors open at 5:15 p.m. with dinner at 6 p.m., and tickets cost $35 for adults and $25 for students.  News-Register

SPORTS NEWS

  • Senior Tayah Curry and sophomore Grace Andrew from Mac qualified for the Girls 6A state wrestling tournament on Friday, Feb. 13 at the OSAA Special District 1 Championships + they will now prepare to compete at the state meet.  News-Register
  • Alyssa McMullen, Adie and Eliza Nisly each reached the 1,000-point mark—boosting Amity girls basketball's winning legacy—in time for Saturday's PacWest Conference championship. The milestone underscores the team’s strong performance in Class 3A play.  News-Register
  • The No. 19 Amity boys basketball team is set to host a win+or+go+home playoff match today at noon in the Warrior gym after a 63 to 57 loss to Blanchet, while the No. 26 Pirates girls ended their season with a 46 to 40 loss to Santiam Christian on Feb. 18.  News-Register
