Good morning, McMinnville.

Mega Millions tickets now cost $5 starting today, up from $2, and the odds of winning the jackpot improved from 1 in 303 million to 1 in 290 million (lottery officials say the change will boost sales), with jackpots starting at $50 million and growing faster each drawing.

The Oregon Lottery expects to earn an extra $5.4 million and see more frequent billion-dollar jackpots (data scientist Paul Westerman estimates this increase), a move aimed at luring more players to the game.

Oregon legislators are working on a bill that would require fossil fuel companies to pay for taxpayer costs from extreme weather disasters — a proposal aimed at recouping funds for damage recovery from wildfires, droughts, and heat domes.

The Winterhawks clinched a 4-3 series win today with a 4-2 Game 7 victory over the Prince George Cougars — key plays in the third period turned the game around and they will face the Everett Silvertips in the next round.
