CRIME NEWS

  • Four wolfdogs from Sandra Atwood’s home jumped a six-foot fence on March 7 and killed a pet dog and two cats in McMinnville—after years of disputes with city officials over repeated code violations, the animals were impounded and Atwood now faces 22 citations and an April 30 court hearing.  The Oregonian
  • A Washington County jury found Newberg resident Robert Elmer Atrops (70) guilty of murdering his wife nearly 40 years ago on April 17 after a three-week trial.  News-Register

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Marty Palacios and incumbent Kraig Albright are running for Position 1 on the Dayton School Board in the May 20 election as voters will receive ballots in the mail after April 30 to be returned by 8 p.m. on May 20 - other contests include a challenge for Position 7 and an unopposed race for Position 4 with ballots available at the Yamhill County Clerk’s Office or local drop boxes.  News-Register

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • YCAP released preliminary homeless count data that shows nearly half the number of people reported as homeless compared to last year's count.  News-Register
  • Three candidates filed to run for board member Position 1 and two filed for Position 4 in the Yamhill Fire Protection District; incumbent Jon Peasley faces challengers Brian Woodcuff and Craig Sauers — while incumbent Jim Phillips runs against Tom Bernards. Ballots will be mailed after April 30 and must be returned by 8 p.m. on May 20 to the county clerk’s office or local drop boxes.  News-Register
  • An Oregon judge dismissed a lawsuit on April 17 that sought damages for up to 3.5 million people after a May 2023 data breach stole driver license information, stating that lawyers could not show financial injury — this decision prevents the case from being refiled.  The Oregonian
  • The Oregon Senate will vote Monday on a bill that would allow lottery winners to remain anonymous+ the measure is part of reforms to stop discounted ticket sales, though Gov. Kotek has not yet said if she will sign the bill.  The Oregonian
