COMMUNITY NEWS

  • McMinnville Youth Collective is hosting a plastic flamingo fundraiser to help fund its summer 2026 service learning trip to Alabama—each $40 donation plants a bird in a yard for 48 hours.  News-Register

EDUCATION NEWS

  • McMinnville School Superintendent Kourtney Ferrua will speak today at 7:30 p.m. at the district office (800 N.E. Lafayette Ave) during the first budget committee meeting where principals and finance director Jason Hall will share funding details; a follow-up meeting is planned for May 20 if needed.  News-Register
  • Rural Yamhill and Polk County school districts announced vocational courses will be offered in the Barbara Roberts center in Sheridan before construction begins. The program will bring career technical education to students sooner than expected.  News-Register

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Tina Kotek and state fire officials warned that a tough wildfire season will begin in June due to a warm winter, drought & low snowpack. They urged residents to clear debris and follow campfire rules to lower fire risks.  The Oregonian

SPORTS NEWS

  • Mac’s softball team won an 18-3 road game against Newberg on Friday as seniors Dakota Mitsche and Ava Fleischman plus freshman Fiona Kreft drove key runs in a 15-hit performance. The Grizzlies will play Century on Tuesday at 5 p.m.  News-Register
  • Local softball fans can vote for Oregon Softball Player of the Week until Sunday at 11:59 p.m. — voters may submit multiple votes — and the winner will be announced Monday.  The Oregonian
