CULTURE NEWS

  • The Yamhill County Fair & Rodeo will feature country, rock and hip hop acts from Clay Walker (July 29), Sara Evans (July 30), C C Music Factory (July 31) and Hinder (Aug. 1); rodeos and a demolition derby (Aug. 2) are part of general admission.  News-Register

EDUCATION NEWS

  • McMinnville School District will trim staff for 2026-27 as rising costs and falling enrollment were discussed at Wednesday's budget meeting. The board will review the proposal on May 20 (public meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the district office) to adjust staffing levels accordingly.  News-Register
  • Chemeketa students now can buy a WOU Club Sport Player Pass to play rugby and compete with support from an Oregon Promise grant — players like Bobby Garibay boosted their grades and joined nationals while planning career paths.  News-Register

SPORTS NEWS

  • McMinnville’s girls varsity golf team won the Pacific Conference at Chehalem Glenn on Tuesday with a 338 score led by junior Mabel Findley and advances to the state championship on May 18-19. Meanwhile, senior Gage Slaughter earned an automatic state qualifier slot after a season low 69 on Monday.  News-Register
  • On Saturday, May 2, the McMinnville High School Sports Hall of Fame inducted Maile Keliiheleua, Chris Haddeland, Spencer Payne, and the Grizzlies 2006 Boys Soccer Team at the school gym, where family and friends shared laughs and memories of high school days.  News-Register
  • Wildcat seniors Wyatt Hurley and Ely Kennel, who once played on opposing high school teams (Hurley from Yamhill Carlton and Kennel from Santiam Christian), now team up at Linfield University to boost the Wildcats in the conference tournament.  News-Register
  • In Yamhill County, Amity’s Ella Hatch, Delphian’s Lily Olivares and Willamina’s emerging runner are training together to boost their track and field skills and chase state competition dreams—showing a bright future for local athletics.  News-Register
  • Linfield's softball Wildcats won their eighth straight Northwest Conference title on Sunday, boosting their No. 7 national ranking.  News-Register
