COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Several local organizations are hosting events this Memorial Day weekend to honor servicemembers, including a tradition where McMinnville children set out over 5,000 flags on Baker Creek Road from today through Memorial Day—American Legion members will also visit local cemeteries starting at 9 a.m. and host a barbecue at the American Legion Hall on Atlantic Avenue on Monday from 1 to 5 p.m.  News-Register

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Yamhill County Historical Society will host a bobbin lace making class from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 31 at the Yamhill Valley Heritage Center—admission costs $25 and includes a program by the Portland Lace Society with hands-on instruction to craft a lace keychain.  News-Register

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Updated election results show the $6M Sheridan School District bond measure is passing 579 to 537 votes — 540 to 479 in Yamhill County reversed Tuesday’s initial shortage. The Chemeketa Community College bond is also passing with 34,770 to 32,550 votes — ballots postmarked by Tuesday and mailed in through May 27 will be counted with final unofficial results on May 28.  News-Register
