EDUCATION NEWS

  • OSU Extension Service has provided a June guide to help Oregon gardeners prepare their yards for summer by picking ripe strawberries often to avoid fruit-rotting diseases and using safe pest management methods. The guide recommends building trellises, pruning blooms, watering lawns regularly, and using organic mulches — all to help keep gardens healthy.  The Oregonian

SPORTS NEWS

  • Linfield softball lost in extra innings on Sunday when Trine beat them 10+9 in an NCAA Division III semifinal match in Bloomington, Ill, ending their season at 45+7. The loss means the Wildcats will not advance while Trine moves on to the championship series.  The Oregonian
  • The Oregon State Beavers will face the USC Trojans in an elimination game at Goss Stadium on Sunday afternoon after beating the Saint Mary’s Gaels 20-3 earlier—if they win on Sunday, they will then need a win in a winner-take-all final on Monday to advance—while the Trojans require only one win.  The Oregonian
  • Newberg's Sophia Castaneda won her first gold in the Class 6A 400 at the state championships on May 31 at Hayward Field in Eugene—she finished in 53.83 seconds and edged out competitors from Roosevelt and West Linn after previous near misses as a freshman and last year.  The Oregonian
