EDUCATION NEWS

  • On May 14, Linfield held a town hall where students expressed frustration over the administration’s handling of a plan to cut costs aimed at eliminating a $4.9 million deficit—students demanded clearer answers on faculty cuts and more transparency as the draft proposal is under review until July 4 before final approval on Sept. 19.   The Linfield Review

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health insurers in Oregon proposed premium hikes for 2026 for individuals and small businesses—averaging about 10% and over 11% increases, with companies like Kaiser and Providence asking for hikes that could affect thousands. The Division of Financial Regulation will review the proposals, hold public meetings on June 20 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and on July 18 from 12 to 3 p.m., and decide in August if the increases are fair.  The Oregonian

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • This weekend in Oregon, residents can fish, clam, and crab without a license or tag and the state is stocking rainbow trout statewide while free parking+camping is offered in state parks on Saturday. Family fishing events are also planned for the weekend.  The Oregonian

  • The McMinnville Grizzlies won a playoff game 5 to 4 in extra innings on Friday at Patton Middle School—Tyler Brummitt led a key rally against South Medford.  News-Register
  • Tuesday’s baseball state tournament semifinal games set Saturday’s championship matchups— in Class 6A, Grant beat Jesuit 8 to 2 and Sunset beat McMinnville 5 to 1. Teams in Classes 5A, 4A, 3A and 2A/1A advanced with wins over teams such as Wilsonville, Canby, Marist Catholic, Pendleton/Nixyaawii, Taft, Cascade Christian, Umpqua Valley Christian and Kennedy—deciding the field for Saturday's contests.  The Oregonian
