ECONOMY NEWS

  • Intel laid off 4,000 workers in the US this week and now plans to cut nearly 2,400 Oregon jobs at its Hillsboro campus as it streamlines operations amid lower sales — the layoffs could impact state economic strength and tax revenue.  The Oregonian

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The McMinnville School Board will hold a meeting Monday at 6:30 p.m.—at the district office on N.E. Lafayette Avenue—to review program reports, finances, new student fees, substitute rates, and admission of students from outside districts while electing a new chair and vice chair. It is also the first meeting with interim Superintendent Kourtney Ferrua and will update which employees can sign checks.  News-Register

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • George B Lopez was named director of the Office of Tribal Affairs at the Department of Human Services and took charge on Monday — he will work with Oregon's nine federally recognized tribes and build on his past role with the Klamath Tribes.  The Oregonian
  • First responders from local and surrounding agencies will train in an active shooter simulation at Faulconer-Chapman Elementary in Sheridan from July 15 to 17. The exercise, organized by the Department of Homeland Security and funded by a $62,000 grant, will cover response tactics and media briefing procedures—designed to improve coordinated efforts.  News-Register
