Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 18th of July.
Good morning, McMinnville.
📰 Economy
An Oregon Wine Board report shows that last year production dropped 25% and value fell 28%, putting pressure on McMinnville’s winemaking community (over 20 tasting venues nearby) as wineries face labor issues and lost export markets.
Experts expect a marketing push aimed at younger buyers may help revive the industry.
🏛️ Government
McMinnville City Council approved a rec center design that includes an expanded eight-lane competition pool, a $1.6 million community room and fixed bleachers — raising costs to nearly $90 million.
The council will move forward with a May ballot measure while meeting with consultants to finalize details.
🏈 Sports
Mac JBO Senior Federal baseball team clinched the State Championship after a three-day tournament at West Albany High School, overcoming the loss of teammate (13-year-old Zakai Motley) and winning key games against Newberg and Grant.
Coach David Cunningham said their unity and determination carried them to a 26-20 victory.
