  • Today the Saturday Morning Breakfast program resumes at the McMinnville Cooperative Ministries building on N.E. Second St. Free breakfast is available from 8 to 10 a.m. and the program seeks community donations and volunteer help after a brief hiatus due to federal grant cuts.  News-Register
  • Thousands of people attended the four-day fair and rodeo at Yamhill County Fairgrounds in McMinnville from July 30 to Aug. 2 and local official Gary Wertz said the event drew large crowds.  News-Register
  • Rock of Ages is hosting its 27th annual Fun Festival today at 15600 S.W. Rock of Ages Road featuring a tethered hot air balloon ride from 6:30 to 9 a.m. and family activities including small plane flights, a car show, horse and wagon rides, and a kids village—canned food donations will be accepted throughout the day.  News-Register

  • Local banks, including First Federal, now require customers to sign a 'Withdrawal Alert' form before making large cash withdrawals—this form explains common fraud schemes and warns that customers assume full responsibility for any risks.  News-Register

EDUCATION NEWS

  • McMinnville School Board members will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the district office at 800 Lafayette Ave. or join via Zoom. The board will discuss the ban on personal electronic devices, review personnel, gifts, finances and facilities, hear a report on the construction excise tax and get details from City Council member Zach Geary on a proposed bond for new recreational facilities — a proposal that may fund school property improvements.  News-Register
  • A sprinkler head broke Tuesday evening, Aug. 5th, at Patton Middle School, sending several inches of water into a classroom and the library below and damaging flooring, ceiling tiles, and equipment—Rapid Response is using a dehumidifying system to dry the area over the next five to seven days so that classrooms are ready by the time teachers return at the end of August and students start on Sept. 2.  News-Register

  • Former City Council President Adam Garvin was unanimously chosen as interim city manager to serve until a permanent manager is named. A local third-generation resident, he plans to work full-time at city hall—leaving his auto-detailing business to trusted lieutenants—and face major local development decisions.  News-Register
