- ➤ Musician Ryan Rizzle Adams sets up a concert called Rizzle’s Giveback to raise money and gather school supplies for local elementary students on Sunday, Sept 14 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Happy Acres at the Bayou—near The Nines golf course south of McMinnville; adults pay $15 and may receive a discount with a K-5 supply donation. - ➤ On Sept. 10th, volunteers from MacHabitat cleaned up four Lafayette homes as part of their new Block Blitz project—pruning blackberry bushes, clearing rotting fruit, and trimming overgrown hedges. The project, supported by Secor Homes and funded by an AARP Community Challenge grant, aimed to help low-income homeowners and improve neighborhood appearance. News-Register
- ➤ On Wednesday, a dozen George Fox University students joined Carlton city workers at a new park on South Seventh Street to plant grass seed, remove non-native plants, and improve wildlife habitat during GFU's Serve Day. - ➤ Stella-Jones, a wood treater in the northwest, has been fined more than $1 million by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality for 23 violations dating back to 2022. The violations include releasing polluted stormwater into the South Yamhill River—source of drinking water for 6,000 residents of Sheridan—and sending hazardous waste to non-permitted landfills while the company must upgrade its stormwater treatment system. - ➤ Interim McMinnville City Manager Adam Garvin said this week that a proposed $98.5 million recreation bond will add a tax of $0.95 per $1,000 assessed value that will rise to $1.79 when older bonds are paid off—giving voters a clear look at future costs.
