CULTURE NEWS

  • McMinnville Airport will host the Oregon International Air Show Sept. 26–28 where the U.S. Air Force Viper Demo Team, F-15 Eagles from the Oregon Air National Guard’s 142nd Fighter Wing, and the USN EA-18 Growler Demo Team will perform. For the first time, the Royal Canadian Forces Snowbirds will fly red and white Tutors — visitors can choose from tailgate parking and other seating options while enjoying aircraft displays, food stalls, and souvenir stands.  News-Register

  • More than 3,000 pounds of Kirkland Signature Ahi Tuna Wasabi Poke were recalled after green onions in the Sept. 17 batch tested positive for listeria—Costco is offering refunds in Oregon and Washington for the product sold last week.  The Oregonian

SPORTS NEWS

  • At Wortman Stadium—lit by a thin layer of smoke from a nearby Portland Metro fire—the Mac Soccer Grizzlies earned their first home victory after an earlier setback. Meanwhile, the girls improved on the road with a solid effort that lifted their season outlook.  News-Register
  • 3A league play has begun in Yamhill County as Amity girls and Dayton boys push for a postseason return — competition is fierce while teams work to improve their standings in the second half.  News-Register
  • The Valley Panthers kicked off their fall rugby sevens season last Saturday at Laurin Middle School in Vancouver by losing three games while trying new play combinations—exchange student Ava Kowitz from McMinnville scored both tries and made one kick. The team will host a league tournament at Wortman Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 27 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.  News-Register
  • Oregon quarterback Dante Moore said he will call former starter Bo Nix for advice as he prepares for a tough game at Penn State on Saturday, Sept 27 at Beaver Stadium—he hopes to learn how to perform well in a loud and hostile environment.  The Oregonian
