COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Yamhill Community Care Organization awarded over $600,000 in grants to 15 local nonprofits for community health projects that include food support, education and wellness programs. Seamus McCarthy said proposals totaling 5.3 million were reviewed by several committees — and the board approved the final selections.  News-Register

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Mak and Maleah Parshall moved to McMinnville in June to grow their businesses which include MoleBusters, an online service for personalized content, and an eBay store. They married on May-31 and will launch Mak's book Adaptability in a virtual event on Nov-1 while he plans to start a law business in Arizona.  News-Register
  • Raising Cane’s, a fried chicken chain from Louisiana that currently operates one Oregon restaurant, plans to open several new locations in the Willamette Valley over the next year—expanding its footprint in the state.  The Oregonian

CULTURE NEWS

  • Nearly 50 Yamhill County artists will open their studios on Oct. 3—giving residents a chance to explore the 31st annual Art Harvest Studio Tour and see a variety of creative works.  News-Register

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Yamhill County Board of Commissioners will review a proposed deed change that could allow residents to use Charles Metsker Park and Rainbow Lake for daily recreation—pending approval at an upcoming meeting.  News-Register
  • ODOT will start a $23 million project early next year to improve state-owned roads in McMinnville + the project will update ramps and bicycle routes.  News-Register

HEALTH NEWS

  • More than 111,000 people buying health insurance through the marketplace will pay higher premiums in 2026 and nearly 35,000, including 761 in Yamhill County, will lose financial help if Congress does not extend pandemic-era tax credits—lawmakers are debating the credits as higher costs may force many to skip coverage and small businesses might cut jobs.  News-Register

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Mac Grizzlies boys varsity soccer team with a 4–1–2 record beat the Cardinals in a close match. The girls varsity team suffered their first loss—when No. 2 West Linn won.  News-Register
  • The Grizzlies ended their losing streak with a 40—0 win at Wortman Stadium against 5A McKay on Sept. 26; senior players made key plays that boosted the team. The win gives them confidence as they prepare to face Liberty on Oct. 3.  News-Register
