COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Glide and Gather skating rink will open Friday, Nov. 28 under the tail of the Spruce Goose at Evergreen Aviation Museum, letting McMinnville residents skate on synthetic ice and view aircraft while reserved seating is available for *non skaters*. It will run Fridays from 4 to 8 p.m., Saturdays from 1 to 8 p.m. and Sundays from 4 to 8 p.m. through the holiday season, and visitors can also tour the museum’s Goose Lights attraction for an extra fee.  News-Register
  • Residents will help decide which facial hair McMinnville Police officers will wear in December by donating to Juliette’s House—the county’s only child abuse intervention center—at locations such as the police department, downtown association, chamber of commerce and Troon Winery until Dec. 5; extra votes can be made during the Christmas parade on Third Street at 4:30 p.m. Nov. 28, and officers will shave into the winning style at 3 p.m. in the department lobby.  News-Register

  • Seven Oregon towns were named by WorldAtlas as having the most charming town squares in the Pacific Northwest—McMinnville was noted for its vibrant downtown with public art and the annual UFO Days celebration. The list also praised Astoria, Bandon, Cannon Beach, Silverton, Hood River and Sisters for their unique local characters.  The Oregonian

HEALTH NEWS

  • Yamhill Community Care’s personal information was accidentally posted online on Aug. 29 when two financial reports with member IDs were left visible until removed—affected individuals were notified in October as the agency works with the Oregon Health Authority to improve its review process.  News-Register

SPORTS NEWS

  • Linfield’s swim teams wrapped their fall season on Nov. 23 at the La Verne Winter Invitational at East Los Angeles College with 11 career-best times — they will return to the pool on Jan. 16 against Whitworth University. Meanwhile, wrestlers Ethan Ensrud and Jacob Moore made history as the first duo to reach finals at the Spokane Open and the women’s basketball team finished 2-1 at the ETBU Thanksgiving Classic.  News-Register
  • Linfield’s men’s and women’s soccer teams earned eight all-conference awards this season. The women's team finished third in the Northwest Conference with senior Mia Curtaz earning a first-team spot while seniors Alexa Fritz, Reese Jones and Lize Rendon got second-team honors—on the men's side, senior Aedan Carroll and junior Ross Vargo earned third-team honors.  News-Register
