- ➤ NorthWest Senior and Disability Services is hosting open houses at meal sites for adults 60+ in McMinnville, Sheridan and Newberg. The free events celebrate nutrition, connection and healthy aging with meals, games and time to interact on Wed, Dec. 17 (McMinnville), Thu, Dec. 18 (Newberg) and Wed, Jan. 12 (Sheridan). EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The McMinnville School Board unanimously named Dr. Kourtney Ferrua as superintendent on Tuesday night after replacing Debbie Brockett — whose leadership lost staff support. Ferrua, a respected local educator with strong credentials, will build collaboration in schools. News-Register
- ➤ Willamina Middle School principal and special education director Mike Hughes died suddenly on Wednesday, Dec. 10 at his home in Willamina. The district is covering his duties, offering extra counseling (for students and staff) and has rescheduled some athletic events. News-Register
- ➤ Three McMinnville schools were removed from the state watch list after showing steady progress (since the pandemic). Education officials said the move reflects the schools' commitment to improving student achievement. News-Register
