COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Spirit Mountain Community Fund awarded over $100K to nonprofits as part of its fourth-quarter grant program. Local groups including Juliette’s House, Yamhill Community Care, CASA + Habitat for Humanity will use the funds to improve community life.  News-Register

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sheridan City Council declared a state of emergency at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 18 to prepare for expected flooding on South Yamhill. Officials advise residents to review safety plans as high water levels are forecast.  News-Register

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Wildcats had a strong weekend as both the men’s and women’s basketball teams won non-conference games and Smolt was named NWC POTW, while the volleyball team received an academic award. The successes boost team morale (local fans noticed the rising competitive spirit).  News-Register
  • McMinnville’s boys basketball team overcame foul trouble on Tuesday at their home gym to win 54-46 over David Douglas. The Grizzlies improved to 3-2 in a hard-fought game.  News-Register
  • McMinnville’s girls varsity basketball team trailed after a strong second-half surge by the Cardinals, falling 50—44 on Tuesday at Lincoln. The team showed promise despite the loss as it prepares to improve its record.  News-Register
