  • Construction of a new boutique hotel began today on Alpine Avenue after months of planning; owners (Tim Wade and Carole Lundgren) expect it to operate as the Piquette hotel and serve local visitors.  News-Register

HEALTH NEWS

  • Oregon health officials said the state will keep its own vaccine schedule, recommending shots such as hepatitis A and B and influenza despite federal changes that removed these vaccines on Monday; public and private insurers will cover them through year's end.  The Oregonian

SPORTS NEWS

  • Aaron Fentress invites fans to email questions ahead of the Ducks’ College Football Playoff semifinal against No. 1 Indiana at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Friday, Jan. 9 at 4:30 p.m. Fans can send inquiries & join the conversation as the team prepares for the high-stakes matchup.  The Oregonian
  • Eighth grader Tanner Rauch from Patton Middle School was the lone McMinnville representative to place at the 2025 Sierra Nevada Classic in Reno from Dec. 29-30, earning a 4-0 record and winning his weight class.  News-Register
  • Seven players from the Dayton Pirates earned 3A football All-State honors from the OSAA after an undefeated season; senior Stephen Macias received first-team nods at running back and second-team recognition at linebacker, with teammates including Asher Maxwell, Logan Oliveira, Alejandro Magana, Royal Carlson, Kolby Wofford, and Tyler Pond.  News-Register
  • Dayton athlete Aliyah Sauceda won the championship in the 170 lb class after she defeated 6A metro opponents today at a 3A wrestling event in McMinnville.  News-Register
