  • This week, school boards meet Monday, March 9 (district office, 6:30 p.m.) and March 11 (Amity, 6 p.m.) while a library book sale occurs Saturday, March 14; a Navy breakfast runs March 15 at Legion Hall; and a garden workshop is on Saturday, March 28 at Linfield’s Keck Center.  News-Register
  • Rusty Rae highlights the News-Register’s Community Partners Program, which offers subscriptions, letter submissions, and press club membership (a benefit package for community support) to help keep local news strong amid growing digital challenges.  News-Register
  • The annual Ski & Ride Fundraiser — supporting See Ya Later Foundation’s Seeds of Hope and the Willamette Valley Cancer Foundation — will be held virtually as lack of snow cancels the event at Mt. Hood Skibowl, with an online auction open for bids until 12 p.m. Monday, Mar. 23.  News-Register

  • Registration is open for Terroir Creative Writing Festival on Saturday, May 2 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Experience Center at Stoller Family Estate (16161 N.E. McDougall Road near Dayton).   • The annual McMinnville Wine & Food Classic will run Friday through Sunday, March 13-15 and serves as a fundraiser for St. James Catholic Elementary School.  News-Register

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Robotics team Chronobreak from Mac High won the Sustain Award at the Oregon FIRST Tech Challenge Championship Tournament over the weekend and will advance to a national event in Springfield (mid-April) or Long Beach (late May).  News-Register

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Oregon lawmakers did not advance key climate and energy bills this session, including one to create a Climate Superfund for extreme weather damages and another to help Oregonians install heat pumps without upfront costs. Lawmakers plan to revisit these measures in future sessions (said sponsors).  The Oregonian
  • Oregon's Plastic Pollution and Recycling Modernization Act is now taking force after recent legal rulings narrowed a challenge — about 3,000 companies will pay fees to support new recycling programs and curbside improvements statewide.  News-Register
