Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 8th of July.
Good morning, McMinnville.
Rite Aid announced plans to close nearly 1,200 pharmacies nationwide+more than 100 stores in Oregon and Washington will also shut after the company filed for bankruptcy in May.
DMV officials warned that residents received scam texts claiming they have unpaid traffic tickets and urging them to pay using fake links (the messages cite phony administration codes).
The department said it never requests personal information via texts and advised residents to delete these messages and block the numbers.
Intel began notifying workers Monday about major layoffs that will cut thousands of jobs, including a reduction of 15–20% in its Oregon manufacturing division and the shutdown of its automotive technology business.
The cuts—similar in scale to last year's—are expected to deeply affect Oregon's high-wage semiconductor industry and local suppliers.
A long-running lawsuit over short school days for special education students will return to U.S. District Judge Ann Aiken to assess if Senate Bill 819 is fixing the issues.
Disability rights advocates and state officials will review monthly reports and evidence to determine if full-day instruction is being properly enforced.
Starting July 1, Oregon State Parks allows class 1, 2 and 3 e-bikes on park roads and trails where standard bicycles are permitted—unless a park enforces stricter rules—and riders may use e-bikes on wet sand sections of ocean beaches but not on dry sand or dunes.
Riders are asked to ride responsibly and yield on multi-use pathways.
