GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Oregon Public Utility Commission has implemented new rules that stop PGE, Pacific Power & Idaho Power from disconnecting nonpaying customers during extreme heat warnings and for two days after. Customers who lost power up to three days before a heat wave can call to reconnect for free, with the protections in effect through October.  The Oregonian
  • The city is proposing a $98.5 million bond to build a new combined community and aquatic center next to Joe Dancer Park on Riverside Drive and to upgrade the library, senior center, parks and outdoor recreation areas; advocates claim the plan will serve the community for 75 to 100 years — a strategy aimed at countering rising replacement costs if improvements are delayed.  News-Register

SPORTS NEWS

  • Scholastic sports in Yamhill County began practice on August 18th and many teams are now preparing for games later this month. McMinnville soccer teams will host abbreviated games on August 28th at Wortman Stadium — while Mac football holds a jamboree on August 29th before they open their season on September 5th.  News-Register
